Dr. Wong Kam Fu (born in 1945 in Qingxi, Dongguan, Guangdong) is a distinguished Chinese inventor, entrepreneur, pioneer, and philanthropist. Known for his creative ideas, he is widely referred to as “Thomas Edison of Hong Kong”, “King of Invention” and “King of Mobile Paging”. The inventor achieved numerous awards including the “Hong Kong Young Industrialist Awards 1990,” and the Golden and Silver Awards in the 3rd and 4th “World Genius Convention” in 1989 and 1990, respectively. His distinguished achievements in the paging industry and his contribution to China affairs granted him the appointment as “Hong Kong Affairs Adviser” in 1995, and subsequently a member for the First Election Committee for Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 1996.

Dr. Wong has engaged in the telecommunication and Internet-related sectors for over 30 years. As founder of Star Paging (Holding) Ltd., Dr. Wong had filed patents on mobile paging that brought great success to his company, which then became the first mobile paging company to be listed in Hong Kong in 1991. As a business visionary, Dr. Wong later transformed his paging business and filed patents on online commerce and biotechnology long before the boom in the dot-com and biotech sectors. He currently specializes in credit card security and mobile payment systems.

Dr. Wong plays a significant role in the development of the Patent Law in People’s Republic of China. In early 1980s, he already foresaw the importance of protecting patent, copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property rights to achieve China’s modernization goals. As such, he rigorously promoted the need to protect intellectual property rights and strived for the establishment of patent law in China. In 1984, the State Council of People’s Republic of China approved Dr. Wong to incorporate China Patent Agency (H.K.) Ltd., an unprecedented Hong Kong-based patent agency, to provide intellectual property services to clients in China and abroad. Today, China Patent Agency employs over 500 staff and has offices in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, New York, Tokyo, and Munich.

As Vice chairman of China Patent Agent (H.K,) Ltd., Dr. Wong has filed more than 700 patents worldwide in China, United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Japan. He proudly shares his patents in this archive, hoping to inspire and foster the innovative spirit of the next generation.
